ACXplus: The Highest Performing Line Made by tesa®

When looking for a high-performance, double-sided tape with an acrylic core, it’s good to know you’ve got options to choose from. And for the needs of your project, it’s vital to be able to shop around. So, here we’d like to introduce you to the 3M™ VHB™ line’s direct competitor: the tesa® ACXplus series.

The ACXplus line  is the highest performing line of tapes that tesa® offers.

As tesa® describes it, ACXplus “consists of a high-performance acrylic system and is primarily characterized by its bonding power, stress dissipation, and its temperature and weather resistance.” And they’ve applied these strengths across their various product families in the ACXplus line, making sure you have the options you need for your constructive bonding solutions:

  • Gray/White (704x)
  • High Transparency (705x)
  • High Adhesion (706x)
  • High Resistance (707x)
  • LSE Performers (709x)

In this blog post, we’re focusing in on their High Transparency product family by highlighting one of its flagship options.

Benefits of ACXplus 7054 and its whole High Transparency Product Family

With their innovative and high-performing acrylic core, ACXplus 7054 and the rest of the High Transparency product family create a unique bond with a slew of strengths.

  • Incredible Bond Performance
  • High Transparency
  • Viscoelasticity
  • Temperature and Weather Resistance

Incredible Bond Performance: ACXplus High Transparency options have high immediate tack and high peel adhesion. And as the breakdown above illustrates, their bond keeps building stronger and stronger over time to various surfaces. These traits make them a great solution when you’re looking for a reliable hold to dissimilar substrates.

High Transparency: In their description of this ACXplus product family, tesa® uses the phrase “ultra transparent.” And sure enough, the invisible, reliable bond to different surfaces makes them ideal when your project needs permanent bonds between glass or acrylic to different metals.

Viscoelasticity: Here’s the innovative balance of viscosity and elasticity. The viscous aspect relaxes mechanical stresses by maintaining its sticky consistency under the stress and tension of dynamic loads. And the elastic quality gives the tape the inner strength necessary to return to its original shape after being stretched or compressed.

Viscoelasticity is the trait that sets foam tapes apart in general and the ACXplus series in particular. Specifically, with ACXplus, tesa® uses an acrylic core (either solid, pure acrylic; foamed acrylic; or modified, foamed pure acrylic). And the solid, pure acrylic core of ACXplus 7054 maximizes the tape’s high-performing cohesive and adhesive potential. In high dynamic loads, its elasticity holds it together, while its viscosity maintains high adhesion levels.

Temperature and Weather Resistance: Recommended both for indoor and outdoor applications, the High Transparency options hold with a reliably strong bond during various temperature and weather challenges. They perform consistently over the long term in temperatures hot enough to boil water. And they’re resistant to weather factors like UV, humidity, and moisture.

Main Applications

The above strengths combine into an outstanding tape solution for projects requiring a seamless, clear, permanent bond of transparent and translucent materials in the following industries:

  • Sign Manufacturing (such as PMMA on aluminum)
  • Deco Glass Panels
  • Partition Walls (such as office glass-on-glass walls and clean rooms)

Benefits of Bonding Transparent Materials with Clear, Double-Sided Tape

Glues, screws, and rivets – when we think of building stuff, these fasteners are often the first things we think of. However, double-sided tape outperforms both glue and mechanical fastener options by bringing several practical advantages to your production floor.

Improves Your Product’s Overall Design

  • Material Integrity
  • Visual Integrity

Material Integrity: Mechanical fasteners permanently damage your product’s material and alter the appearance. And glues can also cause problems with errant drips, uneven coats, dried excessive residue, etc. Using tape, however, helps you avoid any irreversible damage to your material.

Visual Integrity: Unlike obvious glue or rivet points, transparent tape creates an imperceptible bond, seamless and ideal for maintaining the visual design of your translucent materials.

Improves Your Product’s Overall Quality

  • Conformability
  • Stress Dissipation
  • Shock Absorption
  • Non-Corrodibility
  • Sealing Capacity
  • Noise-Dampening Hold

Conformability: Thanks to an effect known as “wet out,” tapes also bond better to irregular or uneven surfaces than mechanical fasteners. Screws and rivets bend, crater, and lift the edges of material, creating unintended gaps between substrates. The tape’s adhesive, on the other hand, wets out: it spreads evenly across the surface and conforms to different textures and angles. This effect helps to eliminate unintended gaps.

Stress Dissipation: Glue and mechanical fasteners create single points of stress and tension where the bond is held. When enough stress gets applied, it concentrates and overwhelms theses single points and can lead to the material splitting. Tape solves this problem by distributing the tension evenly across the entire surface of its bonded area, removing the stress from concentrating on any one point.

Shock Absorption: Tape creates a cushiony, viscous layer between the bonded surfaces, which absorbs impact better than glue and fasteners. For this reason, tape is used in smartphones, tablets, and other electronics to make them less susceptible to damage when dropped or struck.

Non-Corrodibility: The metal in mechanical fasteners corrode over time. Tape skirts this issue entirely.

Sealing Capacity: Tape seals gaps and slits. It safeguards your products from dust and moisture wearing down products held together by gap-causing screws, rivets, etc.

Noise-Dampening Hold: Tape does a better job than both glue and mechanical fasteners to cancel out sounds caused by vibration. In fact, tape eliminates vibration noises.

ACXplus 7054Improves Your Product’s Assembly Process

  • Faster Production
  • Cleaner Application

Faster Production: Glue requires time to cure. Fasteners require multiple tools and steps. But double-sided tape, with its immediate bonding potential, takes less time and less complexity. It saves you time and money during the converting process.

Cleaner Application: Tape also saves you money on labor costs because it’s easier to work with and leaves less of a mess behind in comparison to other bonding solutions.
